I₂O on Linux - Home

This site should be a resource for the I₂O Linux driver and utilities. The I₂O Linux kernel driver was initially written by Alan Cox and the raidutils (which are used to manage the Adaptec RAID controllers) were created by Adaptec. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me: Markus.Lidel@shadowconnect.com. Please put at least "I2O" into subject, so i don't miss it.

Status of I₂O on Linux:
The i2o_core / i2o_block / i2o_scsi / i2o_config / i2o_proc drivers have been tested on both 32-bit x86 and x86-64 for RAID capability.

In theory all controllers which support the 1.5 version of the I₂O specification should work with the I₂O Linux driver.

  is the man who made all possible. He helped out with some hardware, and without his connections and coordination capabilities the whole project would stopped before started.

  is the original author of the I₂O driver under Linux. He also reviews the changes and distinguish, what comes in and what drops out.

  is the contact at Adaptec. He made it possible, that the raidutils from Adaptec were released under the BSD license. Currently he maintains the dpt_i2o driver, which is still in the kernel, but also takes some time to answer my questions.
• RPM
  the rpm's have been reviewed and corrected by Anvil and Michael Schwendt. Many thanks to them.
• Zero Channel Controllers
  because we don't own a zero channel controller, the driver could only be fixed with help of many volunteers who take time to try out the patches. Especially Hsiangjen Shih has contributed to get the zero channel controller work.
• I₂O kernel patches
  The patches to the I₂O subsystem where reviewed line by line before any of them where included in the main kernel. Without the help of Andrew Morton, Patrick J. LoPresti, Arjan van de Ven, Christoph Hellwig, James Bottomley, Jens Axboe, Jeff Garzik, Dave Jones, Ingo Oeser, Al Viro, Randy Dunlap, Milton Miller, Adrian Bunk, Wolfram Joost, Richard B. Johnson and Vasily Averin this wasn't possible. They helped greatly on optimizing and bugfixing the I₂O subsystem to run smoothly on 2.6 kernel.
